No More Posts About Programming

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

I’ve found myself posting a lot of development based content here. Since I don’t plan on stopping that any time soon, I thought it’d be appropriate to filter them.
So I made use of one of my domain names: simplisticcomplexity.com
I’ll be posting there exclusively about web development, rails, ajax, css, and all that other goodness. I’ve […]

Ruby on Rails Ships with Os X 10.5

Monday, August 7th, 2006

DHH lets everyone know that Ruby on Rails and a (hopefully less sick) Ruby 1.8.4 will be included with not only Leopard 10.5 server, but the client version as well.
Wow! Every new Apple computer will ship with the Rails development stack. He also mentioned that they’re going to do their best to get Mongrel in […]

Apache 2.2, mod_proxy_balancer, & Mongrel on Ubuntu 6.06

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Ok after playing with Ubuntu, Apache 2.2, mod_proxy_balancer, and Mongrel, I’ve decided that this is the deployment stack I want to use for at least the next month. *snicker*
Since I was using a few different sources as references while setting this up, I thought I’d post exactly what I did to get everything installed correctly […]

First Mongrel Cluster Is Go

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

Tonight I got my first mongrel cluster up and running from scratch (that means even compiling apache) in less than 4 hours. Nice!
Thanks to these sites I was able to get apache 2.2 compiled and configured, as well as ruby and mongrel working well in Ubuntu.
If you’re looking to figure out how to get this […]

A Rake Cure For Rails and SVN

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

Chris Anderson has created a rake library specific to subversion and Rails projects.
It has quite a few tasks, but the blessing he has bestowed upon us is svn:bootstrap. This task runs all the tedious svn commands you normally have to do by hand to a new Rails project. It will set all the usual ignore […]

New Hotness

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

After seeing hundreds of apps running on localhost this weekend, Anthony Eden and I decided that :3000 is the new :8080
So I figured I’d throw another t-shirt into the rails mix.
New Hotness:

Rails 1.1.3 Security Update

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

As promised at the Rails Core panel Q & A on Sunday, 1.1.3 has been released.
Its a security update, suggested for everyone on 1.1.* So, basically, it shouldn’t break anything for anyone. Its totally backwards compatible.

RailsConf 2007

Monday, June 26th, 2006

At the end of the conference, the Ruby Central guys announced that next year RailsConf 2007 will be in Portland, Oregon next year. Not only that but O’reilly will be putting on the show.
The most important part is that O’reilly is teaming with Ruby Central on the planning and organizing. So Chad, Rich, and David […]

The Power of the Marginal

Monday, June 26th, 2006

Paul Graham posted the essay that was derived from his RailsConf 2006 keynote.
It was a great presentation, and is a great read. If you missed his talk or you feel like you work in a narrow field, give this a read.
