Flickr Feeds With High Resolution Images In iPhoto 6?
Ok, this is wierd, but I was JUST writing a simple script to filter the flickr RSS feeds to allow you to use them with iPhoto and provide you with the high resolution images, and it seems that all of a sudden the flickr feed inside of iPhoto 6 now produces high resolution images now.
The day I got my copy of iLife ‘06, the first thing I did was put a flickr feed into iPhoto 6’s photocasting feature. I mean, what’s cooler than having your favorite tag at flickr as a screensaver? The problem? The flickr feed sends out low res images. Needless to say, this looks like poop on my 20″ iMac. Oh well.
So tonight I decided to fix that for me, and everyone else that cares. And in the midst of it, all of a sudden all the photos from flickr feeds are now high res. Did this happen just now? Is flickr testing for a useragent and repurposing its feed? If so, GOOD GOING flickr, you guys rule as usual!!
Check it out here:

Well spotted. Digg++

Given that hires images are part of a “pro” account, there must be something else going on. Especially since this doesn’t work for me right now. Are you including auth information in your feed URL?
does this give you hires photos?
feed://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne
what about this:
feed://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?tags=flower&format=atom_03
thanks for any more info you can give — it would be great to avoid writing a feed re-writer app

well, my theory about needing to be auth’d is obviously flawed. it’s all just
served from static.flickr.com. and juding from the urls, it’s easy to “guess”
at the full size image url for any photo.
nonethless, i am not getting full sized (i.e., *_o_d.jpg) from my flickr feeds.

Never mind, I got full resolution, fully authenticated feeds working. If you
want to be able to access your private flickr photos via iPhoto photocasts,
give my alpha site, http://photocastr.com/ a try. I’ll be adding more features
in the coming days.
