For those that don’t know, Flip4Mac has made a couple applications involving Microsoft’s Windows Media format for a while. Previously they offered just a single codec to let you play WMV files in Quicktime for $10. Well worth the money. This was nice because you could finally watch wmv videos in the browser, not watch Safari auto download them to your desktop and watch the embarrassing excuse for an app, Windows Media Player, open in your dock and play the file.

It looks like that application is now dead, and Microsoft is distributing Flip4Mac’s codec for free. So go grab it and quit letting WMV files piss you off.

Its worth noting too that Flip4Mac processes and presents WMV 10x better than Microsoft’s app ever did.
