Technorati Comes Of Age
I finally got around to fully browsing Technorati’s recent site redesign and I’ve gotta say that its spot on. They’ve taken all their content and organized it in a really usable way. Technorati is basically THE place for a nice summation of the current blogosphere. Almost all current weblog systems send a ping out to Technorati once a new post is created and published, allowing them to keep a huge index of posts. It’s basically the entire blogosphere, hosted.
With their new redesign, they’ve really done a great job in massaging all of the data into usable content. Instead of just a search engine, they’ve got whole sections that present to you up to date information. For example, their Pop section lists the top movies, books, and news according to how much they are being talked about within the blogosphere. This is incredibly powerful in examining “what’s hot” in real time. Their tag section does the same type of thing, but orders it by topic.
If you’ve never perused Technorati before, get your butt over there. There’s no better place online that sums up the online culture as it happens in real time. It’s just a great example of engineering content in a convenient, functional, and fun way.
