Another One Bites the Dust
TvTome.com has joined the ranks of CDNow.com. Once an amazing community resource for epidsode information about tv shows, TvTome was the defacto standard for tv meta data. Going there today, I found Tv.com, a C|net owned, ad serving, hard to navigate, and just maybe tv tracking, website.
It looks like C|net has bought the traffic of TvTome and turned it into another tv tracking website, but its slow to load due to all the advertising all over it. If we wanted a tvGuide like website, we would have gone to tvguide.com. Its regular visitors don’t want all of this extra content like News, Trivia, and commentary. TvTome existed specifically for Tv Meta information because it didn’t exist anywhere else. It was also completely community ran. And with its simple URLs, it was easy to parse information out of it. Don’t hold your breath for a C|net provided API to get the data from their tv episode databases.
Maybe C|net will see that it was a mistake to take all of the best features out of its purchase. But I think that we’ve just lost another great resource. A common story for great content on the web.
