Bye Bye Consumer Rights
Well Bush has taken his “frivilous lawsuit” package and pushed it through Congress. The Senate passed the lawsuit limiting bill and the House promised to push it strait through if the Senate made no changes. So 'ol Bushy should be making some points in his big boys' club.
During the entire election this was described as a way to get rid of frivilous lawsuits to help business. I'm all for getting rid of bs lawsuits to protect small buisness startups and owners. This is what we need more of. I'm also all for protecting people from morons that spill coffee on themselves and decide to sue, as was an example used throughout the election.
The problem here is that this bill limits Class Action lawsuits, and class action lawsuits are practically the last thing consumers have to defend themselves from Mega-Corporations. Rarely are class actions frivilous. If they are its due to the snake lawyers. These are who need to be limited and legislated.
All this bill is going to do is hurt us all as consumers. What happens when Dell puts out a specific laptop that has a video card that blows out on it on over 30% of the same laptop and decides they just aren't going to replace the laptop for the customer. Good luck now.
Apple computer made a nasty batch of iBook computers with faulty motherboards. As the numbers with bad ones grew, it was apparent that Apple had a bad batch. They spoke of nothing. They replaced the products under warranty, and those outside of warranty they didn't replace. Not until someone threatened a class action lawsuit did Apple report that they would replace the laptops up to 3 years after warranty. I had mine replaced 3 times and finally received a brand new iBook G4. Thanks Apple ;) But if it wasn't for the class action lawsuit, maybe they would have never done a single thing at all. Leaving thousands of customers to deal with the problems on thier own.
This bill does more for corporations, than for small businesses, and does nothing for the consumer. If you think prices will be slashed due to less lawsuits god do you have another think coming.
Hey, at least we still have customer service. Right?
