Score One For The Librarians
I was extremely impressed to read about librarians passing out leaflets and posting signs to educate people about the Patriot Act.
For the uninformed, the Patriot Act is a 342 page bill written, voted, and signed into law by congress and our President in less than 5 weeks. Just one part of this law allows the government to access any database in this country. Be it Barnes & Nobel's customer databse, your local library database, and yes, your grocery store database. You think those cards are for cheap prices? You're every purchase is being tracked and recorded. This law also makes it illegal for the owner of the database that was accessed to tell anyone that the government requested data from it. Nice.
It was created to aid in the “capture” of terrorists. They LOVE that word don't they? It couldn't get any more ambiguous could it? What the hell is a terrorist? Pretty much anyone. And thats why this law is so fucking scary. It's taking rights away from you by the minute. This law is extremely unconstitutional and I suggest you educate yourself. Visit your local library :)
