Toothbrush Vs. Computer
While eating my lunch today I came across a stupid poll that showed the toothbrush beating the computer and automobile as a more “l invention. What idiots did they poll to get these results? These people would rather walk around with no car than not have a toothbrush. I'm not saying having a car is better than clean teeth, there are many ways to clean ones teeth. Where does the toothbrush get off going up against the computer as an invention? I've compiled a few reasons why there is no comparison as far as invention goes.
1. The computer is a machine that NO ordinary person could create. You don't just get sick of writing on paper and go to your garage and make a computer. This is something that took years to make, and is getting better every day. NO other invention can claim that. On the other hand, the toothbrush is basically some bristles on the end of a stick. I'm pretty sure that any resourceful Homo-Sapian would in one way or the other invent this for themselves. The toothbrush has NOT changed since the day it was made. It does not operate in a different manner or make our lives easier than it did in whatever century it was created. Sure, theres the “Reach” and other bullshit they try to tell us about new toothbrushes, but we all know (well some of us I guess) that they are just bristels on a stick.
2. I'm pretty sure I could get away without having a toothbrush. A little salt water swished around a couple of times a day would do a fine job. Whereas, a computer could never be replaced bysomething else.It could, but it would be a million manual jobs that the computer has already replaced. This brings me back to number one, if you can't give me a toothbrush, I can friggen make one. I, on the other hand could never “make” a computer if it wasn't around. It an incredibly complicated device. A mild abrasive with a handle… thats a toothbrush.
3. Society as a whole, has been around for milleniums, 2 on record actually. But not till about 40-50 years ago did quality of living and ease of process pick up drastically. We live in a world now that is very fast paced. Our everyday errands and projects would have taken much of our whole day 60 years ago. We have industries that are built around the computer and would never have existed. And I don't think its because of the toothbrush.
I'm not saying that the computer is an excuse for poor oral hygiene. Because it isn't. Just ask your friend with the halitosis ridden project manager. But, I personally could live without a toothbrush, if it meant keeping my computer and driving to work. Knowing how to brush my teeth never got me a job.
I saw that same show, and i totally agree wiht you. Why does it seem they always pick the most moronic people fo rthese polls?
By the way, I love your site!
