Fair Use
I haven't posted in a while. I guess I've been either busy or boring. I just became a member and made a donation to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The EFF is “a non-profit group of passionate people - lawyers, volunteers, and visionaries - working to protect your digital rights.”
Thier site is very informative about what is going on in our courts, boardrooms, and gorvernments of America. If you know me, then I have no doubt gone on an on about these issues to you. I EXTREMELY suggest going to this site and doing a little reading. I bring this up because: A. I haven't posted in a while and B. I liked what I wrote in the “Why do you feel you have donated” field of the membership form. The folllowing is why I joined:
To keep fair use a present term. If i buy a cd, i should be able to burn a copy to keep on my boat, car, river house, home, and office. (Not that i HAVE all those things, but some do.) We pay for these things. In no way am i taking money away from these companies by doing this. And just because somone else might, gives them no reason to screw me. These media moguls assume first that their customers are thieves, and i'm afraid they are going to win. I feel i need to contribute and hope that if anything, my money helps to get the WORD out, and lets other know that this stuff is going on. Because the rest of the world has no idea what is happening, and what could happen in the next 5 years. 2003 == 1984? i dont think so… but its coming, and Minority Report may have pegged 2054 pretty darn well.
Well there is my rant. But really, if this is news to you, you like your digital toys, or you already know about this and it PISSES you off, go check out the orginization.
